CyberM8 is a cybersecurity advocacy, awareness, and skills development initiative dedicated to enhancing cybersecurity knowledge across South Africa. The initiative addresses the limited cybersecurity awareness among South Africans by equipping individuals, MSMEs, and communities with essential skills and best practices to navigate the digital landscape securely. Through public awareness campaigns, policy influence, and tailored training programs, CyberM8 aims to build a more resilient and digitally aware society, empowering South Africans to proactively protect their digital environments.

Compliance and Experience

CyberM8 Initiative operates as a registered Non-Profit Company (NPC) led by a team of cybersecurity and Information Communication Technology (ICT) experts, collectively bringing over 35 years of experience to the field. This expertise enables CyberM8 to offer practical, impactful resources and programs designed to meet the needs of diverse audiences. By working collaboratively with educational institutions, government bodies, and industry partners, CyberM8 plays a vital role in fortifying South Africa’s cybersecurity infrastructure and cultivating a digitally skilled workforce.

Our Objectives

The key objectives CyberM8:

  • Increase National Cybersecurity Awareness
    Promote widespread understanding of cybersecurity threats and safe online practices among individuals, schools, communities, and businesses through targeted public awareness campaigns and educational content.

  • Develop and Deliver Tailored Cybersecurity Training
    Provide accessible and locally relevant training programmes for youth, educators, MSMEs, and public sector personnel, with a focus on foundational cybersecurity knowledge, responsible digital citizenship, and practical defence mechanisms.

  • Empower MSMEs and Underserved Communities
    Bridge the digital divide by equipping small businesses and rural or township communities with the tools, skills, and resources needed to protect their digital assets and operate securely in an increasingly digital economy.

  • Foster Youth Engagement in Cybersecurity Careers
    Introduce and promote cybersecurity as a viable and exciting career path for young South Africans through bootcamps, mentorship, and competitions, fostering a pipeline of local cybersecurity talent.

  • Influence Policy and Promote Digital Rights
    Engage with government, private sector, and civil society stakeholders to influence cybersecurity policy, promote data protection, and advocate for inclusive, rights-based digital environments.

  • Establish Strategic Partnerships for National Impact
    Collaborate with educational institutions, government agencies, tech companies, and NGOs to scale CyberM8’s impact, drive innovation, and coordinate national responses to cybersecurity challenges.
