Over the weekend of 24–26 October 2025, the CyberM8 Initiative hosted the HackSecure Innovation Challenge 2025, a 48-hour cybersecurity hackathon that brought together some of South Africa’s brightest young minds to innovate for a safer digital future.
The event, held at The Innovation Hub in Pretoria, saw passionate teams of developers, analysts, designers, and creatives come together to solve real-world cybersecurity challenges. Guided by experienced mentors and industry experts, participants brainstormed, built, and presented innovative solutions that addressed pressing issues in online safety, data protection, and cyber resilience.
From the moment the challenge kicked off, the HackSecure House buzzed with energy, creativity, and determination. Participants coded through the night, fuelled by Switch Energy Drink, while lunch meals from Pedros kept the momentum going.
The hackathon featured engaging war rooms, pitch decks and midnight innovation sessions, where mentors and participants collaborated intensely to refine their projects. What began as ideas on whiteboards turned into practical, forward-thinking cybersecurity solutions by the final pitch session.
After three days of nonstop innovation, the top teams were announced and awarded at the closing ceremony. Each winning team received a cheque, trophies, and recognition for their outstanding creativity and execution.
